Introduction

Certainly! Here is a comprehensive review and recommendation for the Coursera course on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with OpenFOAM: --- **Course Review and Recommendation: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with OpenFOAM** **Overview:** This Coursera course offers an in-depth introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using the powerful, open-source software OpenFOAM. Designed for learners new to CFD or those looking to streamline their learning process, the course provides practical, hands-on experience in setting up, running, and analyzing fluid flow simulations with OpenFOAM, one of the most widely used open-source CFD tools in the world. **Strengths:** - **Practical Focus:** The course emphasizes real-world applications, guiding students through core concepts such as meshing with blockMesh and snappyHexMesh, editing geometries via Blender, post-processing results, and applying turbulent models. This practical approach helps students immediately translate theory into practice. - **Structured Learning Path:** Divided into five logical parts—introduction, core knowledge, useful cases, advanced theories, and realistic applications—this curriculum ensures a comprehensive understanding of CFD, from fundamentals to complex scenarios. - **User-Friendly:** No prior Linux or programming experience is required. Basic Linux commands related to OpenFOAM are introduced as needed, and programming tips are provided to empower learners to optimize their workflows. - **Community and Resources:** Being open-source, OpenFOAM has a large community. The course leverages this by exposing learners to community-supported tools and techniques, fostering ongoing learning and problem-solving. **Areas for Improvement:** - **Learning Curve:** Despite efforts to simplify the entrance into CFD, OpenFOAM’s complexity can still be daunting for absolute beginners. Additional beginner-friendly tutorials or simplified exercises could further enhance accessibility. - **Depth of Theory:** For learners seeking deep theoretical understanding of turbulence models or numerical algorithms, supplementary resources may be necessary since the course provides a foundational overview. **Who Should Enroll:** This course is ideal for engineering students, researchers, or industry professionals interested in fluid dynamics simulation without prior extensive coding or Linux experience. It offers a practical pathway to mastering OpenFOAM for various engineering applications, from academic research to industry project workflows. **Final Recommendation:** I highly recommend this Coursera course to anyone eager to get started with CFD using OpenFOAM. Its well-structured curriculum, emphasis on practical skills, and inclusive teaching approach make it an excellent resource for building confidence and competence in fluid dynamics simulation. Whether you aim to apply CFD to engineering problems or simply expand your computational skills, this course provides a solid foundation to propel you forward. --- If you have any specific aspects you'd like highlighted or tailored further, feel free to ask!

Overview

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is an advanced tools to solve complex fluid dynamic and heat transfer equations using numerical method. OpenFOAM is an open-source and free to use CFD solver with the largest community in the world. Despite its powerful capability, its major drawback is the step learning process. By making this course, I hope I can reduce the effort of new learners to start learning using this amazing and powerful tool.In this course, you will get hands-on experience using OpenFOAM following the core theories related to the setting used in the simulation simply and intuitively, so you can use it for your applications. You don't have to have basic LINUX or other programming experience before this course; we will explain some basic useful LINUX commands only related to the operation of OpenFOAM, and some efficient programming tricks will be also explained during the course. This course will be separated into five parts (1) introduction, (2) core knowledge, (3) useful cases, (4) some advanced theories, and (5) More "realistic" applications.with the focus on the basic "tutorial" case folder, meshing using blockMesh and snappyHexMesh, geometry editing using Blender, post-processing, turbulent modeling, scheme and algorithm theory, and some "real-world" workflow.
