The Certified Paralegal (CP®) program, offered by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA), is a nationally recognized certification that validates a paralegal's proficiency and commitment to the legal profession. Accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and acknowledged by the American Bar Association, the CP® credential is widely respected across the legal community. Key Components of the CP® ProgramEligibility Requirements:To qualify for the CP® exam, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:Graduation from a paralegal program that meets NALA's criteria.A bachelor's degree in any field plus one year of paralegal experience or at least 15 semester hours of substantive paralegal coursework.A high school diploma or equivalent plus five years of paralegal experience and a minimum of 20 hours of continuing legal education completed within the past two years.NALAExamination Structure:The CP® exam comprises two sections:Knowledge Exam: 120 multiple-choice questions covering various areas of law and legal procedures.Skills Exam: An essay-based assignment that assesses practical legal writing and analysis skills.Both sections must be successfully completed to earn the CP® credential.Certification Maintenance:The CP® certification is valid for five years.
