This course explores engineering and project management concepts tailored specifically for the oil and gas industry. It covers the entire lifecycle of engineering projects, from the foundational stages of design to the execution and operation phases. Students will gain practical knowledge on how large-scale projects are managed through key stages such as Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM), and EPC projects. The course emphasizes the technical and managerial aspects of engineering, equipping students with the skills needed to navigate real-world challenges in complex oil and gas projects.Curriculum Overview:· Lecture 1:Students will begin by understanding the basic engineering principles behind FEED, EPCM, and detailed engineering. The lecture introduces the stages of project execution: engineering, procurement, and construction, outlining each phase's importance.· Lecture 2:The focus shifts to project teams and disciplines, covering the roles of engineering teams across the four stages of oil and gas engineering projects. This lecture highlights the engineering manager's role and the significance of design criteria and documentation, such as the Drawings and Documents Register.· Lecture 3:This session explores client requirements and design basis, focusing on plant function, capacity, feed stock and product specifications, and performance guarantees. Industry standards, warranties, and mechanical guarantees are discussed, offering insights into ensuring equipment reliability and long-term performance.· Lecture 4:The final lecture delves into technical aspects of process design, covering datasheets, heat exchangers, process shutdown systems, HAZOP, ESD systems, relief systems, and operational control philosophy. It concludes with the creation of operating manuals, ensuring students are well-versed in maintaining operational efficiency.By the end of this course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of engineering and project management practices in the oil and gas sector, preparing them for roles in complex, large-scale project environments.
