Overview

The course is for people who want to learn Chinese calligraphy basics. You can take the course with or without knowing Chinese because the original characters are pictography, that is, drawings. You read them just you watch drawings, you write them just like you draw the simplest picture. No one has taught Chinese calligraphy this way, but you will find it is very interesting. Also, I selected the old scripts, shell bone, small seal, and clerical scripts, the former two are only lines with no change in thickness which makes writing same as pencil drawing. The clerical script has stroke change in thickness, but not much, much easier than standard script which almost all Chinese calligraphy instructors' major script for beginners. Most of students were struggled in this script, couldn't see progress for long time, making frustration and dropping off.You will find that you made progress in short time in this course, you will feel confidence and want to learn more. I taught students this way, obtained very good result. One of my students, learnt 2 years from me, 13 -15 years, won 3 times North American Chinese School student calligraphy competition prize, two of them are First Prize. Most students liked the course, and the drop off rate is very low because it is fun to learn, it is encourage to see the improvement in short time.
