Let's find your flow.I've watched too many skaters get stuck in the "I'm not good enough" mindset - playing it safe, staying small, apologizing for taking up space at the rink. But here's what I know: skating isn't just about the moves you can do, it's about the person you become when you're doing them. When you find your flow, something magical happens. You stop apologizing for being there. You stop shrinking back when others are watching. You start taking up the space you deserve - not just on the rink, but in your life.I created this program because I believe everyone deserves to feel that rush of confidence that comes from moving with purpose and joy. I've seen shy skaters transform into radiant performers, anxious people find their calm, and people who felt invisible suddenly shine bright. This isn't just about becoming a better skater - it's about becoming a more confident, expressive version of yourself. When you know you can handle whatever comes your way on wheels, when you've found movements that feel authentically you, that confidence spills over into everything else. You deserve to take up space. You deserve to move with joy. You deserve to feel proud of who you are on wheels.Let's make that happen together.Hi, I'm Melissa Blackwood - but most people know me as Mel! My skating journey began in my early 30s when I discovered roller derby, and I haven't looked back since. For 15 years, I've been exploring every corner of the skating world, from competing in roller derby, exploring the skate park and great outdoors to finding my groove on the roller disco floor. What started as a personal adventure quickly became a passion for helping others discover their own skating stories. As a qualified teacher, certified roller skate coach, and life coach, I bring together my love of skating with my commitment to supporting people's growth - both on and off wheels. My path hasn't always been smooth (literally and figuratively!). Juggling skating while teaching full-time and raising a family taught me that skating isn't just about perfecting techniques - it's about finding joy, building confidence, and creating space for yourself in a busy world.I believe in learning by doing. That's why I'm constantly taking classes, pushing myself into uncomfortable situations, and challenging my own skating boundaries. It's only by continuing to grow as a skater myself that I can truly understand what our community needs and offer the support that makes a real difference. When you skate with me, you're learning from someone who's still learning too - and that's exactly how it should be.
