The Basic HazMat Transportation course is designed to provide essential knowledge for any employee involved in the shipping, handling, or transport of hazardous materials. This comprehensive training program helps meet the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requirements under 49 CFR, ensuring that all HazMat employees are properly trained to perform their duties safely and compliantly.Participants will gain a clear understanding of who qualifies as a HazMat employee and the critical training timelines that must be followed. The course covers the key components of the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), including definitions, classification of materials, packing groups, labeling, marking, documentation, emergency response requirements, and security considerations.Through a structured sequence of lectures, the course walks learners through practical applications like selecting a Proper Shipping Name, using the Hazardous Materials Table, determining packaging requirements, and filling out shipping papers. Participants will also learn how to recognize the four routes of exposure, interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and apply emergency response information in real-world scenarios.Special attention is given to DOT regulations surrounding packaging markings, placarding, and segregation of incompatible materials during transport. The course also outlines the components of a written security plan and the role employees play in protecting hazardous materials from theft, misuse, or terrorism.This training is suitable for drivers, warehouse staff, shipping and receiving personnel, compliance managers, and others whose jobs impact the safe transport of hazardous materials.
