### Course Review: Math Prep: College & Work Ready As more students prepare to enter college or the workforce, the importance of a solid foundation in mathematics cannot be overstated. The **Math Prep: College & Work Ready** course offered on Coursera provides a comprehensive review designed specifically for learners seeking to enhance their mathematical abilities before taking on more advanced studies or entering professional fields. #### Course Overview This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) covers four essential mathematical categories: **Number Sense, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Geometry & Statistics**. It aims to equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the math portion of the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSI2), a crucial step for students looking to enroll in Texas public universities. #### Syllabus Breakdown **Week 1: Number Sense** The course kicks off with an introduction and a focus on Number Sense. This module comprises three lessons designed to ground learners in fundamental concepts related to counting, place value, and number operations. Each lesson wraps up with a graded quiz that affirms understanding and retention of the material. **Week 2: Elementary Algebra** In the second week, learners delve into Elementary Algebra. This module is structured into four lessons covering key topics such as solving linear equations and inequalities, math modeling, graphing, and systems of equations. Through these lessons, students will develop their ability to formulate and solve various mathematical problems that they are likely to encounter in both academic and real-world scenarios. **Week 3: Intermediate Algebra** Week three presents the most intensive module—Intermediate Algebra. With five lessons, learners are encouraged to take their time to fully grasp these concepts. Topics discussed include quadratic equations, polynomials, and functions, among others. Mastery of these principles is critical for progressing to higher levels of math and can significantly impact academic performance. **Week 4: Geometry & Statistics** The final week addresses Geometry and Statistics, rounding off the course with two lessons that bridge the gap between theoretical math and practical application. Students will explore geometric concepts as well as understanding data interpretation and probability, which are increasingly relevant in today's data-driven world. #### Why You Should Take This Course 1. **Comprehensive Coverage:** The course addresses a wide array of math topics, ensuring that learners have a well-rounded mathematical foundation. 2. **Preparation for the TSI2:** For Texas residents or anyone looking to study within public universities in Texas, this course is specifically designed to prepare you for the TSI2 assessment. It’s an excellent resource for building confidence before taking placement tests. 3. **Self-Paced Learning:** The course is structured to allow learners to progress at their own pace, making it an ideal option for busy individuals or those who require additional time to understand more complex concepts. 4. **Interactive Learning Tools:** The inclusion of quizzes at the end of each lesson reinforces learning and helps solidify knowledge through practical application. 5. **Invaluable for Future Studies:** Whether you're aiming for a career that requires mathematical competency or are looking to continue your education, this course equips you with skills that will support lifelong learning and adaptability in various fields. #### Conclusion In an era where mathematical literacy is increasingly vital, the **Math Prep: College & Work Ready** course is a highly beneficial resource for those gearing up for academic challenges ahead. Some errors in typing as well as not able to input radicals, exponents, or square roots as answers. Otherwise it covers the topics well and is easy to work through and use.
Some of the solutions were not programmed properly
I would give 5 stars if it was not for plenty of typo.
some math values on text and in tests were unreadable
Some typos here and there, but overall a decent review for grade 10 algebra. Some grade 11 trig would be a useful addition to the course.
